Mallorca wall art here is two hilltop castles and one cathedral. Capdepera Castle rings a hillside town on the island's east coast, Bellver Castle sits above the capital Palma, and Palma Cathedral appears twice, once with its fountain and palm trees in view and once as a plain facade study.
Every piece in this collection is a fortified or religious stone structure rather than a beach or a coastline, which sets it apart from most Mediterranean island collections built around water. If a beach scene is what you pictured for Mallorca, it is not part of this range, which covers architecture on high ground instead. All three landmarks were built between the thirteenth and the twentieth centuries, so the range moves across several building periods even though only four pieces are involved.
Capdepera Castle is unusual among fortifications for enclosing a full town within its walls rather than standing alone, with the settlement's houses built inside the fortified perimeter on a hill above the island's eastern coast. The photograph here shows that hillside sweep of wall and rooftop together, which makes it a wider, more layered composition than a single tower would be.
Bellver Castle is one of the few circular castles in Europe, built on a hill overlooking Palma with a design that has no straight defensive walls at all, only a continuous curve. It served for centuries as a royal residence and later as a military prison before becoming the city's history museum. Set against the surrounding mountains in this piece, its round shape reads as unusual even to someone with no particular interest in castle architecture.
Palma Cathedral, known locally as La Seu, sits on the edge of the old city directly above the sea, its Gothic facade one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Construction began in the thirteenth century and continued for hundreds of years, and the building's rose window is among the largest found in any Gothic cathedral. One version here includes the fountain and palm trees of the plaza in front of it, and the other isolates the cathedral facade itself, which is the better choice when the building rather than the setting is the point.
All four pieces share a warm sandstone tone under strong Mediterranean sun, whether the subject is a castle wall or a cathedral facade, so the collection reads as consistent in color even across three separate landmarks. That consistency comes from geography as much as style, since Mallorca's local stone runs the same honey and rust range regardless of when a building went up. A room already built around warm stone, terracotta or cream tones will take these pieces without needing to adjust anything else on the wall.
The version of Palma Cathedral with its fountain and palm trees is shot as a panoramic frame, since the plaza and the building's full length both need horizontal room to read properly. The plain cathedral facade and both castle pieces suit a single horizontal canvas instead, where the subject sits closer to the center of the frame.
For other Spanish cities and landmarks see Spain wall art, for other Mediterranean coastlines and islands see Mediterranean wall art, and for castle and fortress photography from anywhere see castle wall art.
Each piece is printed to order on museum quality canvas with archival inks that resist fading, stretched over a solid wooden inner frame and shipped ready to hang, with free shipping.
Capdepera Castle on the island's east coast, Bellver Castle above Palma, and Palma Cathedral, shown once with its fountain and palm trees and once as a plain facade. There is no beach or coastline scenery in this range.
It is built as a perfect circle rather than with the angled defensive walls most castles use, which makes it one of very few circular castles in Europe and gives the piece a distinctive rounded silhouette.
Both. The fortification encloses an entire hillside settlement within its walls rather than standing alone, so the photograph shows the town and the castle wall together rather than an isolated tower.
One includes the fountain and palm trees of the plaza in front of the building, shot as a wide panoramic frame, while the other is a closer facade study without the surrounding plaza, better suited to a single horizontal canvas.
A single horizontal canvas for either castle, since both compositions center on the structure itself, and a panoramic shape only for the wide cathedral and plaza version. Measure the wall against the furniture below it rather than choosing a size in isolation.
