Ontario wall art covers three places: Niagara Falls from the Canadian side, the Canadian Parliament buildings on the Ottawa River, and Toronto's skyline and Casa Loma castle. The falls are the largest group, and the Parliament and Toronto pictures split the rest between government architecture and a modern skyline.
Niagara Falls is really two falls split by the US-Canada border, and Horseshoe Falls, the larger and more photographed of the two, sits almost entirely on the Ontario side. The aerial and Canadian-bank views here look across at the falls from Ontario rather than from the New York side, which is the more open, curving angle most postcards use.
Niagara Falls is lit in changing colors after dark, and the illuminated night pictures here show that lighting against black water rather than the daylight blue and green of the aerial views. They are a different mood from the daytime shots, closer to a city light show than a landscape.
The Peace Tower is the clock and bell tower at the center of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa, and it appears in nearly every picture in this group, whether the shot is a winter view of the whole complex, a close look at the Library of Parliament's copper dome, or the tower seen along the Ottawa River.
Casa Loma is a Gothic Revival house built between 1911 and 1914 for the financier Sir Henry Pellatt, and it is a genuine castle rather than a themed building, with turrets, a great hall and stone towers. An underground tunnel once connected the main house to its stables, one of the details that separates a real early twentieth century estate from a modern reproduction. The pictures here show it in sunlight and in its stone Gothic detail, distinct from the modern glass towers of the Toronto skyline pictures.
Several dusk views of Toronto pick up a red sky behind the downtown towers, which gives the skyline a warmer cast than the Ottawa and Niagara pictures. A dawn version of the same skyline is cooler and quieter, taken before the city's own lights compete with the sky.
A wide aerial view of Horseshoe Falls or a city skyline wants close to the full width of the furniture below it, since the subject is a horizon line that loses effect when cropped narrow. The Peace Tower and Casa Loma pictures are taller than they are wide and suit a narrower canvas instead.
The Library of Parliament's dome is available as a vertical canvas, which keeps the tower's height in frame rather than surrounding it with sky on either side. The wider Parliament Hill and skyline views work better as a panoramic or horizontal canvas, where the building's full facade has room to read.
The falls and skyline pictures work as a living room or entryway statement, since both are wide, bright subjects. Casa Loma and the Parliament pictures, being architecture rather than landscape, sit just as well in a study or hallway, where the detail in the stonework can be seen up close.
For the wider country see Canada wall art, for Toronto on its own see Toronto wall art, for other waterfalls see waterfall wall art, and for other castles see castle wall art.
Every canvas here is printed to order, using archival inks that resist fading, on museum quality material stretched over a solid wooden inner frame, then shipped ready to hang with free shipping.
Niagara Falls seen from the Canadian side, the Canadian Parliament buildings and Peace Tower in Ottawa, Casa Loma castle in Toronto, and the Toronto skyline at dawn and dusk.
The Canadian side. Horseshoe Falls, the larger of the two falls that make up Niagara Falls, sits mostly on the Ontario side of the border, which is the angle these pictures are shot from.
Yes. It was built in Toronto between 1911 and 1914 as a private house for financier Sir Henry Pellatt, in Gothic Revival style with turrets and stone towers, and it is a genuine building rather than a themed structure.
The Peace Tower, the clock and bell tower at the center of Canada's Parliament buildings in Ottawa. It appears in nearly every Parliament picture in this range, in daylight, winter and along the river.
The falls and skyline pictures are wide, bright subjects and work well in a sunlit living room or entryway. Casa Loma and the Parliament buildings are architecture rather than landscape and hold their detail just as well in a dimmer study or hallway.
