Quebec Wall Art

Quebec Wall Art

Quebec wall art is mostly two cities photographed close up: the walled old town of Quebec City around the Chateau Frontenac, and Montreal downriver with its bridges, market halls and winter skylines. A smaller group covers the Gaspe coast, where the village of Perce sits beside its namesake rock.

Chateau Frontenac Is A Hotel, Not A Fortress

The turreted building that dominates this range looks like a chateau because it was built to look like one, but it opened in 1893 as a railway hotel and still operates today as the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. It sits on a bluff above the Saint Lawrence River, which is why so many of these prints are taken from the water or the lower town looking up. Aerial and dusk versions both appear here, and neither shows a government building or a museum.

Bonsecours Market Wears A Silver Dome

In Old Montreal, Marche Bonsecours is the long stone building with the gray dome that shows up lit at night and reflected in wet pavement. It opened in the 1840s as a public market and once served briefly as Montreal's city hall, and the dome is what a viewer remembers even after the rest of the facade fades from memory. The night versions in this range lean toward that reflection rather than the building itself.

Montmorency Falls Runs Higher Than Niagara

Just east of Quebec City, Montmorency Falls drops about a hundred feet further than Niagara Falls, though it carries a fraction of the water. The pictures here show it beside its footbridge or from the gorge below, and the scale only reads once you know the comparison, since the frame gives no other landmark for size.

Perce Rock Comes With Its Own Village

On the Gaspe Peninsula, the pierced offshore formation known as Perce Rock is usually framed together with the red roofed houses of Perce village on the shore below it. That pairing is the point: this is not an empty seascape but a coastal town with a landmark attached, closer in mood to a fishing harbor than to open ocean.

Montreal Carries The Skyline And The Bridges

Where Quebec City supplies the historic buildings, Montreal supplies the modern skyline: downtown towers at dusk, the old train station, a Ferris wheel on the waterfront, and river bridges photographed with sailboats or fall color underneath. A monument to Sir George Etienne Cartier, a key figure in Canadian Confederation, sits in a Montreal park and appears here as well, closer to civic history than to scenery.

Winter Repaints The Same River Scenes

Several of these views exist in both a green season and a snow covered version, and the two behave differently on a wall. The winter Quebec City shots strip the palette down to white, gray and the warm stone of the old town, which suits a room already built on neutral tones. The autumn river shots run gold and orange instead, and want a warmer wall to sit against.

The Wide River Views Want A Panoramic Crop

The Montreal skyline and the Quebec City riverfront are both wide subjects photographed from a distance, so a panoramic canvas across a sofa or a headboard reads better than a tall narrow one. The Bonsecours Market reflection is the exception, since its vertical version exists precisely because the dome and its mirror image stack rather than spread sideways.

How Each Canvas Is Made

Each print in this range is made to order on museum quality canvas, using archival inks that resist fading over time, then stretched over a solid wooden inner frame so it arrives ready to hang. Shipping is free.

Common Questions

What does Quebec wall art usually show?

Mostly two cities: Quebec City around the Chateau Frontenac and the old town walls, and Montreal with its downtown skyline, bridges and Bonsecours Market. A smaller group covers Montmorency Falls and the Gaspe coastal village of Perce.

Is the Chateau Frontenac a real castle?

No. It was built in the chateau style but opened in 1893 as a railway hotel and still operates as one today, the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. It overlooks the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec City's old town.

Why does Montmorency Falls look so tall in these prints?

Because it is. The falls drop roughly a hundred feet further than Niagara Falls, even though it carries far less water, and the footbridge across it is usually included to give the scene a sense of scale.

What size suits a Montreal skyline canvas?

Measure the furniture beneath the wall and aim for about two thirds of its width, since these are wide horizontal or panoramic subjects. A narrow strip loses the skyline's spread, while the vertical Bonsecours Market print is the one piece built for a taller, narrower space.

Are these canvases ready to hang?

Yes. Each one is printed to order, stretched over a solid wooden inner frame and shipped ready to hang, with free shipping. The inks used are archival and resist fading.
