Taipei Wall Art

Taipei wall art is built around one monument complex almost to the exclusion of anything else: the memorial hall and the plaza in front of it, flanked by two theater buildings. Taipei 101 and the wider city skyline make up the rest, mostly photographed after dark.

Liberty Square Is One Complex With Two Names

The white walled monument at the center of this range was officially renamed in 2007 and had its original name restored in 2009, so both names still circulate, and product labels here use both the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and the Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall. It stands at one end of a wide plaza known as Liberty Square, and nearly every product in this collection is a version of this one site, shot from a different angle or at a different hour.

The Memorial Hall Sits Between Two Theaters

Facing the hall across the plaza are the National Theater and the National Concert Hall, a matched pair of buildings with tiered red and gold roofs in a traditional Chinese palace style. Several prints here frame one of the theaters on its own, with its tiled roof and archway lit against the sky, rather than showing the memorial hall itself.

Taipei 101 Supplies The Skyline Shots

Away from the plaza, the skyline pictures in this range are built around Taipei 101, the tapered skyscraper that was the tallest building in the world from 2004 until 2010. These read as a modern counterpart to the memorial complex, trading white stone and tiled roofs for glass and a lit tower against the evening sky.

Night Turns The Same Hall Gold

The memorial hall's white marble and blue tiled roof are floodlit after dark, and a large share of the prints here are night versions for that reason, with the building glowing against a dark sky and its own reflection sometimes visible on wet paving. The daytime versions, by comparison, read flatter and cooler, since the stone itself is pale rather than gold.

Liberty Square Reads Best As A Wide Crop

Because the plaza is the point as much as the hall itself, a panoramic or wide horizontal canvas keeps both the archway and the open space in frame, where a tighter crop would turn a public square into a portrait of one building. The Taipei 101 skyline shots work well as a single vertical canvas instead, since the tower's height is the subject.

The Palette Leans White Stone And Lantern Light

Outside of the green tiled roofs, this range runs mostly white, gray and gold, whether from daylight on marble or floodlights after dark. That makes it an easy match for a room with pale walls or dark wood trim, since the canvas adds warmth without introducing a competing color.

Reflections Repeat Across Several Prints

A number of pieces here include the memorial hall or one of the theaters mirrored in wet paving or a still pool in front of it, which doubles the building vertically within the frame. That repetition is a deliberate part of the composition rather than an accident of weather, and it is worth checking before ordering two similar prints for the same wall, since two reflection shots side by side can compete rather than complement each other.

Pairing A Taipei Canvas With A Reading Room

The formality of the memorial hall and its symmetrical plaza suits a study, a home office or a reading corner more naturally than a busy family room, since the subject rewards a slower look at its archways and rooflines. A brighter, more casual room is a better fit for the Taipei 101 skyline pieces instead.

How Each Canvas Is Made

Each canvas here is printed to order on museum quality material, finished with archival inks that resist fading, and stretched over a solid wooden inner frame before it ships ready to hang, with free shipping.

Common Questions

What does Taipei wall art usually show?

Mostly the memorial hall and plaza at the center of the city, known on product labels as both the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and the Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall, along with the two flanking theater buildings. A smaller group covers the Taipei 101 skyline.

Is the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall the same building as the Democracy Memorial Hall?

Yes. It was renamed the Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall in 2007 and its original name was restored in 2009, so both names still circulate and both appear in the product titles here. It sits at one end of Liberty Square, facing the National Theater and National Concert Hall.

What is Taipei 101?

A tapered skyscraper that was the tallest building in the world from 2004 until 2010. It supplies the skyline pictures in this range, apart from the memorial complex.

What size suits a Liberty Square print?

A panoramic or wide horizontal canvas, since the plaza is as much the subject as the hall itself. A vertical canvas suits the Taipei 101 skyline shots better, since height is the point there.

Which room suits a Taipei canvas?

A study or reading corner suits the memorial hall pieces, since the symmetry rewards a slower look. A brighter, more casual room works better with the Taipei 101 skyline prints.
