Tennessee Wall Art

Tennessee Wall Art

Tennessee wall art is mostly Nashville, shot along the Cumberland River with a riverboat somewhere in nearly every frame. Memphis contributes a single distinctive bridge, Chattanooga and Knoxville add their own night skylines, and a state flag and map piece round out the range.

Nashville On The Cumberland Carries Most Of The Range

Most prints here are the Nashville skyline seen from across or along the Cumberland River, which runs through downtown past the city's cluster of towers. The versions shift between sunset, twilight and full dusk, but the river and the skyline together are the constant, which is why this subgroup reads as one extended series rather than several unrelated cityscapes.

A Riverboat Appears In Nearly Every Nashville Print

A paddlewheel riverboat shows up in most of the Nashville pictures, usually as a small foreground shape against the larger skyline behind it. It is a genuine local detail rather than decoration, since tourist riverboats have run on the Cumberland for decades, and its presence is what tells a Nashville shot apart from a similar river city skyline elsewhere in the range.

Memphis Brings The M Shaped Bridge

The Hernando de Soto Bridge carries traffic across the Mississippi River at Memphis, and its two steel arches, each shaped like a rounded M, are lit at night in a way that makes the bridge instantly recognizable against the dark water. The Mud Island pictures nearby show the same river from a park built on a peninsula just off downtown Memphis.

Chattanooga And Knoxville Round Out The Cities

Beyond Nashville and Memphis, this range includes a smaller number of night skyline shots from Chattanooga, in the southeast corner of the state along the Tennessee River, and Knoxville, further north and east. Both read closer to the Nashville night pictures than to the Memphis bridge shot, since the subject in each case is a cluster of lit towers rather than a single structure.

Two Pieces Trade The Skyline For Graphics

A small number of prints here are not photographs at all: a waving state flag and a weathered, distressed version of the same flag. These are bought as identity pieces for a den or office rather than as scenic art, and they sit apart from the rest of the range in both subject and mood.

The Palette Runs Sunset Orange On The River

Because so many of these prints are timed to sunset or golden hour, orange and amber dominate the water and sky across most of the Nashville and Chattanooga pictures. The Memphis bridge shots run cooler by contrast, since they are lit at night rather than by a setting sun, which is worth noting if pairing pieces from different cities on the same wall.

The State Capitol Sits In Nashville, Not A Separate City

Unlike several other states in this collection, Tennessee keeps its government building in the same city that supplies most of the skyline pictures. The state capitol print here shows the building's columned facade rather than the skyline, which makes it a closer, more architectural subject than the wide river views around it, and a natural pairing for a study rather than a living room.

The River Skyline Wants Width Over Height

A skyline strung out along a riverbank is a wide subject, so a panoramic canvas or a wide horizontal print carries it better than a square or narrow one, and several of the strongest Nashville pictures in this range are built as panoramics for that reason. The state flag pieces work fine at a more standard rectangle, since there is no horizon to preserve.

How Each Canvas Is Made

Every canvas in this range is printed to order on museum quality material with archival inks that resist fading, then stretched over a solid wooden inner frame and shipped ready to hang, with free shipping.

Common Questions

What does Tennessee wall art usually show?

Mostly Nashville along the Cumberland River, often with a riverboat in frame, plus a Memphis bridge picture and night skylines from Chattanooga and Knoxville. A state flag and a state map piece round out the range.

What is the bridge in the Memphis print?

The Hernando de Soto Bridge, which carries traffic across the Mississippi River at Memphis. Its two steel arches are shaped like a rounded M and are lit at night, which is what makes the bridge recognizable in these prints.

Does every Tennessee print show Nashville?

No. Most do, but the range also includes a Memphis bridge picture, night skylines from Chattanooga and Knoxville, and a state flag and map piece that are not photographs at all.

What size suits a Cumberland River skyline print?

Take about two thirds of the width of the furniture beneath the wall, and choose a panoramic or wide horizontal crop, since the skyline runs along the riverbank rather than sitting in one compact point.

Which room suits a Tennessee canvas?

A living room or den with warm tones suits the sunset river pictures well, since orange and amber dominate most of the range. The state flag pieces fit an office or den better than a formal living space.
