Washington State Wall Art

Washington State Wall Art

Washington State wall art splits between Mount Rainier's snow capped cone, the Seattle skyline with the Space Needle, and a run of waterfalls and alpine lakes further out: Snoqualmie Falls, Palouse Falls, Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan. The state flag, carrying a real portrait, closes the range.

Mount Rainier Anchors Nearly Every Landscape Piece

Rainier is the tallest peak in the Cascade Range and visible from much of the Puget Sound region on a clear day, which is why it appears here more than any other single subject: reflected in Tipsoo Lake and Bench Lake, rising above a pine forest, seen from a coastal town, and photographed across every season from summer green to full winter snow. Choosing between Rainier pictures really means choosing a season and a foreground rather than a different mountain.

Seattle Is A Separate Register From The Mountains

The Seattle skyline pictures, built around the Space Needle and the waterfront on Union Lake, are night shots full of artificial light and reflection, a different visual language entirely from the daylight mountain and lake pictures elsewhere in this range. Buying one skyline piece and one Rainier piece for the same wall works only if the room can carry both a cool blue night scene and a warmer daylight landscape without one flattening the other.

Snoqualmie And Palouse Falls Are Two Different Kinds Of Water

Snoqualmie Falls drops in a single wide curtain near Seattle, photographed here over turquoise water in a panoramic frame that suits the width of the falls. Palouse Falls, out in the state's dry eastern canyon country, drops into a narrower gorge and is shown at golden hour and in late afternoon light, a warmer and more desert toned picture than the green, misty Snoqualmie shots.

Mount Baker And Mount Shuksan Share A Look

Both peaks sit in the North Cascades near the Canadian border and both appear here reflected in still alpine lakes, close enough in composition that the two are easy to mistake for each other at a glance. The detail that tells them apart is the surrounding ridge line rather than the mountain itself, so buy by the specific title rather than by the general look of snow and water.

The Olympic Coast Is The One Saltwater Subject

Ruby Beach, on the Olympic Peninsula's Pacific side, is the only true coastline in this range, its sea stacks and driftwood a sharp break from the inland lakes and mountains everywhere else. It reads as a Pacific Northwest coastal picture more than as a Washington mountain picture, and it pairs more naturally with a coastal collection than with the Rainier or Cascade pieces.

Farmland Adds A Working Landscape To The Range

A wheat field with Mount Baker on the horizon is the one agricultural picture here, a working landscape rather than a wilderness view, and it carries a flatter, more open composition than the tight alpine lake shots. It belongs beside the Palouse Falls picture more than beside the mountain reflections, since both come from the state's drier, more open eastern side.

The State Flag Carries A Real Portrait

Washington is the only state named after a US president, and its flag is the only state flag in the country to carry a portrait of an actual person, George Washington himself, set on a green field. That makes it a genuinely unusual piece of identity art next to most other state flags, which use a seal, a crest or a plain design rather than a face.

Matching A Season To A Room

The winter Rainier and Tipsoo Lake pictures run white, grey and cold, while the summer versions carry deep green and blue. A room used mainly in the evening, with warm lamplight, tends to suit the summer pictures better, since the winter tones can read as flat and cold under artificial light rather than under daylight.

How Each Canvas Is Made

Common Questions

What is the main subject of Washington State wall art?

Mount Rainier, shown across every season and reflected in several alpine lakes, appears more than any other subject. The Seattle skyline, Snoqualmie and Palouse Falls, and the North Cascades peaks Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan make up most of the rest.

Is a Seattle skyline picture the same style as a Mount Rainier picture?

No. The Seattle pieces are night shots built around the Space Needle and city lights, while the Rainier pieces are daylight landscapes. The two read as different visual languages and need a room that can hold both a cool night scene and a warmer daylight one.

How can I tell Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan apart?

Both are North Cascades peaks shown reflected in still alpine lakes, close enough in look to be mistaken for each other. The surrounding ridge line is the real difference, so check the listed title rather than judging by the mountain shape alone.

What makes the Washington state flag unusual?

It is the only US state flag to carry a portrait of a real person, George Washington, on a green field. Washington is also the only state named directly after a president.

Are these canvases ready to hang?

Yes. Each canvas is made to order with archival inks that resist fading, stretched over a solid wooden inner frame and shipped ready to hang, with free shipping included. For mountain scenery beyond this state see mountain wall art, for the city on its own see Seattle wall art, and for skylines generally see city wall art.
