North Carolina Wall Art

North Carolina Wall Art

North Carolina wall art splits between two skylines and the state's own symbols. Charlotte appears as a lit financial district at night and Asheville as a mountain-ringed skyline at dusk, and Winston-Salem adds a light-trail scene. A waterfall from the western forests and the state flag and map fill out the range.

Charlotte Is A Banking Skyline, Not A Beach Skyline

Charlotte is North Carolina's largest city and a national banking center, and the pictures here show its financial district lit up after dark, glass towers against a dark sky. There is also a quieter dawn view over the same skyline, taken from a pedestrian pathway, which reads as a morning picture rather than a night one.

Asheville Sits In The Blue Ridge Mountains

Asheville's skyline is smaller and lower than Charlotte's, and the panoramic dusk view here shows it backed by the Blue Ridge Mountains rather than open sky, which is the real difference between the two cities on a wall. Asheville is known for its arts scene and mountain setting rather than skyline height, and the picture reads that way.

Winston-Salem's Light Trails Are A Night Exposure

The Winston-Salem picture is a long exposure of traffic at sunset, so the streets carry streaks of red and white light under a skyline still lit by the last of the sun. It is a busier, more urban image than the two other city pictures, and it wants a wall where that motion has room to read.

Dupont State Forest Supplies The One Waterfall

The forest sits in the mountains near Brevard and holds several named waterfalls; the picture in this range is a single wide cascade over layered rock, closer to the calm end of waterfall photography than a whitewater rapid. It is the one purely natural subject in a range otherwise built from skylines and civic emblems.

The State Flag Carries Two Dates

North Carolina's flag carries two dates in gold lettering: May 20, 1775, for the Mecklenburg Declaration, and April 12, 1776, for the Halifax Resolves, the colony's own early votes toward independence. The vintage and grunge treatments age the same flag rather than showing a different design, and the state map print carries the same red, white and blue.

Sizing The Skyline And Waterfall Pictures

A skyline is a wide subject and wants close to the full width of the furniture below it, since a narrow crop loses the sense of a city stretching along the horizon. The waterfall reads well at a smaller size because the whole subject is a single vertical drop rather than a horizon line.

A Panoramic Canvas Suits The Wide Skylines

Asheville's dusk view and the wider Charlotte and Winston-Salem scenes are built for a panoramic canvas, which keeps the skyline unbroken rather than cropping it into a squarer frame. The waterfall and the flag pieces suit a single canvas instead, since neither has the sideways sweep a skyline needs.

The Flag And Map Suit An Office More Than A Living Room

The flag, the vintage flag and the state map are identity pieces bought for pride in the state rather than for the view, so they suit a home office, a study or a gift for someone who has moved away better than the three skylines do. The skylines and the waterfall are decor choices first and belong in a living room or hallway instead.

Common Questions

What is pictured in this North Carolina collection?

Charlotte's financial district at night and at dawn, Asheville's skyline against the Blue Ridge Mountains, a Winston-Salem light-trail scene, a waterfall in Dupont State Forest, and the North Carolina state flag and map.

What do the two dates on the North Carolina flag mean?

May 20, 1775, marks the Mecklenburg Declaration and April 12, 1776, marks the Halifax Resolves, both early steps toward independence made in the colony before the national Declaration was signed. Both dates appear in gold on every version of the flag sold here, including the vintage and grunge treatments.

Is the Asheville picture a skyline or a mountain scene?

Both. Asheville's own skyline is modest in height, so the panoramic dusk view keeps the Blue Ridge Mountains in the same frame rather than cropping them out, which is why it reads differently from the Charlotte and Winston-Salem city pictures.

Should the flag or the skyline hang in a home office?

The flag, the vintage flag treatment and the state map. They are identity pieces bought for pride in the state rather than for a view, and they suit a home office, a study or a gift for someone who has moved away better than the three skylines do.

Are these canvases ready to hang?

Yes. Each is printed to order, stretched over a solid wooden inner frame and shipped ready to hang, with free shipping. The inks are archival and resist fading.
